In recent days bans on using cell phones in driving have been widely debated both online and offline. It is claimed that most of car accidents are caused by the use of cell phones and the drinking of alcohol. The critical role alcohol plays in car accidents has been recognized for a long time and official bans on driving after drinking alcohol have been implemented|performed} in most parts of the globe. But cell phones conversation in driving, however, is not banned officially worldwide until now. However, the rising cases of car accidents due to cell phone conversations has raised much attention to the issue of banning the use of cell phones among drivers in the U.S.. As for me, I really agree that it is not a good idea to talk on cell phones in driving cars, but I don’t think it essential to forbid mobile phones in driving.

It is commonly recognized that cellular phone conversations are a significant distraction for those who are driving, but similarly, people know well about the potential danger talking on cell phones when driving. I mean, it all boils down to whether we are willing to risk lives to use cell phones in driving or not. For cautious, they would definitely reject to answer the coming phone calls in driving, or to pull over immediately and stop the car to reply to the phone call. For those don’t care much about dangers, they are aware of the risk of course, but they tend to risk their lives on luck. “Yes, it happens every day that cell phone conversations result in car accidents, but I won’t be that bad luck to encounter these accidents” thoughts like this are deeply rooted in the hearts of these people. Consequently, they choose to ignore the menace and talk on mobile phones as they like.

On the one hand, the prohibition on cellular phones in driving may facilitate to minimize car accidents, but only on the condition that people are willing to observe the banning policy. That is, even there are bans on mobile phones among drivers, people may ignore the rules and continue to use cell phones in driving, just like those who ignore the bans and drive after drinking alcohol—they just don’t care about tickets. Surely, like before, they don’t think they are ‘lucky’ enough to encounter car accidents just because of cell phone conversations.

On the other hand, the prohibition may annoy those who need to use cellular phones either for work or for personal stuff. Among this group of people, while some are luck-adventurers, most try hard to figure out every possible way to avoid car accidents. For example, buy hands-free cellular phone accessories like earphone with microphone, Bluetooth, etc. In this sense, bans on mobile phones in driving are just unnecessary as serious people can find means to protect themselves from car accidents in using cell phones. What would people think when they missed the urgent call when he is driving just because of the stupid bans? The call may mean a job chance or a business turning point! Besides, since cell phones become popular among the masses, it would be hard for people to give up their habit of replying to incoming phone calls on time. They would be even more distracted by the phone calls if have to refuse to answer them as they may keep thinking about stuff like where the call come from, what the phone call matters, etc.

In short, I hold the idea that bans on mobile phones are not a smart choice to avoid car accidents. What we are supposed to do is to raise the awareness of the danger of using mobile phones randomly while driving. And the crucial point is: people should learn to take good care of
